Photos+ privacy policy

M.G.K. Inc. explains below how information is handled in Photos+ for iPhone and iPad.

1. Our approach

Photos+ stores photos and videos encrypted on your device. We do not have a system for collecting your photos, videos, passwords or recovery keys, and do not send them to our servers. The app does not include advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs.

If you choose to share, export to the photo library or contact us, the information you choose is sent to that destination. iCloud Photos and device backups follow your Apple settings. Optional iCloud backup in Photos+ sends an encrypted backup to the iCloud Drive folder you select, not to our servers.

2. Information handled on your device

The decoy and private collections have separate storage areas and settings permissions. Changing the decoy password from the decoy side cannot change the real password.

3. Camera, editing and backups

Editing saved photos and videos happens on your device. Edited copies are saved encrypted in the same folder while the originals are kept.

An iCloud backup contains the photos, videos, folders, trash and restoration key information from both collections. Photos and videos remain encrypted. Key information is encrypted using a key derived from your 8-digit backup code. Face ID biometric information and its authentication registration are not backed up. We do not receive or retain your backup code and cannot restore a backup on your behalf.

Access information for the chosen backup folder and a derived key for automatic backup are kept on your device. You can disable automatic backup in Settings. The latest three completed backups are retained. Deleting data within the app or uninstalling the app does not delete backups in iCloud Drive. Manage unwanted backups with the Files app. Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to iCloud Drive, its synchronization and storage.

Filters, stamps, brightening and smoothing for photos and videos are processed on-device. Images are not sent to our servers or external AI services for processing. Brightening and smoothing adjust image color and softness; the editor lets you choose application areas for individual effects.

When you open Makeup for a photo, an on-device MediaPipe model detects positions such as faces, eyes and lips. These positions are used only to apply eye-size, lip and blush adjustments to the person you select. The app does not identify or authenticate people from these positions.

Detected positions are held in memory during editing and discarded when the editor closes. They are not written into photo metadata, backups or our servers, or transmitted externally. Photos and detected positions are not used for model training. The model is bundled with the app. Choosing Save a copy saves the visibly edited photo encrypted on the device.

Camera captures include the selected effects and are saved encrypted in the collection currently open. They are not automatically added to the device photo library. Temporary files used for capture, processing and export are removed when processing ends.

4. Device features and permissions

How Photos+ uses device permissions
Permission Purpose
Photo library Importing selected items, deleting originals when you choose, and exporting to the photo library. Importing originals stored in iCloud may cause a download through Apple’s services. The app explains the purpose after you confirm your real password and requests access when you tap Set up. Full access does not mean your photos are sent to us.
Camera Capturing photos and videos within the app.
Microphone Recording audio for captured videos.
Face ID When enabled, authenticating instead of the real password when you tap the Face ID button on the password screen. Apple handles biometric matching. Neither Photos+ nor our company receives biometric face data.

5. Subscriptions

Purchases, billing and cancellation use Apple’s in-app purchase system. A subscription begins when you tap a subscription button, such as Start 3 months free, and confirm in the App Store. Installation alone does not start a subscription or trial. Eligible customers receive a 3-month introductory free trial. From month 4 the subscription automatically renews monthly until cancelled. The price in Japan is ¥100 per month; the app and App Store display the price for your storefront.

The app checks subscription status to decide which features are available. We do not receive the payment card details or billing address you use with Apple. You can cancel in device Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

After the subscription period expires, the current app behavior allows both collections to be viewed without a password. See the subscription guide for details.

6. Storage, deletion and recovery

Data is stored on your device. You can delete photos and videos in the app. Normally deleted items stay in the app’s trash for 30 days and can be restored to their original folders during that time. Items deleted permanently, or removed after 30 days, cannot be restored. See how to restore deleted items.

To erase all data, check the target from private-side Settings. Deleting the app makes its stored photos and videos inaccessible, but exported, shared and backed-up copies must be managed separately. Deleting the app alone does not cancel your subscription.

We do not hold your passwords or recovery keys and cannot recover your data on your behalf.

7. Information received through support

If you contact us by email or form, we use your message and contact details to respond. Our company privacy policy (Japanese) also applies. Do not include passwords, recovery keys or backup codes in your message.

8. External services and disclosure

The App Store, iCloud Drive, iCloud Photos and destinations you select for sharing are governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We do not give information received through support to third parties without your consent or a legal basis.

9. Children

The app does not target a particular age group. It has no system for collecting children’s photos or videos. Parents and guardians should review device settings for purchases and external sharing.

10. Changes and contact

Changes to this policy will be posted on this page. Important changes will also be announced in the app.
